In the first phase of development, the primary focus is on the environmental impact of procurement, communication, and external advocacy. In the following phases, assessment and measures will be extended to cover all environmental impacts related to APFI’s operations, both direct and indirect. APFI’s environmental commitment is to continuously work toward a more sustainable future for the film and television industry.
”APFI has played a key role in developing sustainability within the AV industry, and now, as the saying goes, the shoemaker’s children finally have shoes – with a certification to prove it.” Many aspects of this work are surprisingly everyday matters, such as waste sorting and guidelines for event catering – but when repeated consistently, even these small actions make a difference,” says APFI’s Executive Director, Laura Kuulasmaa.
”In the first phase of EcoCompass, we are not yet required to conduct emission calculations, but we aim to start compiling statistics for the future. As with AV productions, we assume that the majority of APFI’s emissions come from travel. However, our actions in this area are somewhat limited by the fact that we primarily travel using project funds, which are regulated by the state’s travel policy. Hopefully, ecological considerations will be better integrated into these regulations in the future as well,” Kuulasmaa adds.
