Social Sustainability

The foundation of social sustainability is the respect for human dignity and individual’s rights. APFI promotes socially sustainable and responsible practices within the audiovisual industry in various ways.

Member Training

APFI incorporates social sustainability into its training for members, promoting topics like leadership, work well-being, occupational health, and equality. Training also addresses themes of responsible growth in business and risk management.

Diversity Statistics

Since 2019, APFI has commissioned annual statistics on character diversity in Finnish film and TV productions from students of the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ Media and Film degree programme. We aim to encourage stakeholders such as commissioners, funders, and producers to consider representation on screen, starting from the development phase of productions, and to reflect on whose stories are told and how. A thesis (in Finnish) on this topic was also completed in 2021.

Notice Form to Report Inappropriate Operation or Misconduct

As a step towards more socially sustainable practices in the audiovisual industry, APFI’s notice form was launched at the end of 2022. Through this form, individuals working in productions of APFI’s member companies and other stakeholders can report misconduct, harassment, or other abuses.

Guide for Preventing Inappropriate Treatment, Harassment and Sexual Harassment in the Film and TV Industry

The guide, created in collaboration with 44 audiovisual industry organizations, aims to foster a safe and respectful work environment where everyone can work without fear of harassment or inappropriate behaviour. The guide is not meant to replace specific workplace or production-level policies but to provide support for professionals in the film and TV industry.

The guide offers clear definitions of inappropriate behaviour, harassment, and sexual harassment, and provides concrete actions for those facing harassment, supervisors, and those accused, with particular attention to the unique aspects of the film and TV industry. It also highlights legal perspectives and employer responsibilities.
